This is our custom Nakiri, hand forged by Yoshikazu and Yoshihisa in Sakai, Japan.
Knife making in Sakai dates back more than 600 years and 90% of all handmade knives are made in this region. Yoshikazu is regarded as one of the best blacksmiths in Sakai. He works out of his fourth generation forge and he has been making knives here for 57 years. His son Yoshihisa also has been working here with his father for the last 22 years. This is a really special knife!
HANDLE: We currently have 8 different colourways available. The plastic waste melts differently in each handle, so no two handles will ever be the same - yours is a one-off.
BLADE: Nakiri (160mm)
This is your traditional Japanese vegetable knife with a slightly rounded tip.
ADD AN ENGRAVING: If you would like a word or a date to be stamped onto the blade. After ordering this knife, please send us an email with your requirements. The limit is 4 characters on the front of the blade and 6 characters on the back.
STEEL: Aogami 2 (Blue)
This is an incredible high carbon steel, with great rust resistance and a razor sharp edge. It's also easy and quick to sharpen. This is one of the best knife steels available.
FINISH: Kurouchi
The kurouchi also known as the 'blacksmiths finish' is black scale that has been left on the blade. This is to prevent rusting (but we think it also looks great).
